The W+ Interior: Kvadrat / Hong Kong
This fall our design studio went on a visit to Hong Kong’s flagship, Kvadrat Showroom, located in the chic antique’s district of Sheung Wan. At the showroom we met the Hong Kong / Macau Director, Mr. Michael Leishout, who originally hails from Amsterdam- and was tasked at continuing to build Kvadrat’s presence in this region.
Kvadrat is a textile company founded in 1968 in Ebeltoft, Denmark- which still operates there to this day. The company was founded to support Designers and Architects who worked in the Modernist vernacular of that time period. Rooted in this clean and modernist aesthetic, the brand has since formulated a distinct style and weave based on a past archive of work- and with this distinct style, have since collaborated with bold and innovative designers to expand on the possibilities of use, application, as well as the obvious; colour, pattern, and texture.
To date, Kvadrat has collaborated with artists like Olafur Eliasson, Thomas Demand, Pipilotti Rist, Philippe Perrano, and designers and architects like Ronan and Erwin Bouroullec, Peter Saville, Patricia Urquiola, Sevil Peach, David Adjaye, Giulio Ridolfo - and most recently launched a huge collection with fashion design icon, RAF Simons.
Kvadrat Textiles come in solids wovens for upholstery and sheers for curtains. Most of the collections are majority manufactured in wool (due to its strong rubs and stain resistance) from mills in England. However non-wool like Nylon, Polyester, Cotton, and Acrylics are also woven a few of the collections for a larger variety for Designers and End-Users to choose from.
Kvadrat textiles are continually innovating to become more sustainable each year- by reducing wastage through up cycling and recycling. Post-industrial products like the Solid Textile Board and Acoustic Textile felt are created with the company Really and Rewool, a woolen upholstery made using re-used wool scraps from their yarn spinners in the UK.
We thank Kvadrat for a nice showroom chat with our JJ Acuna / Bespoke studio team. And our beautiful Kvadrat Eco-Bags to take home!
